Hône 1 Power Plant
The Hône 1 run-of-river hydroelectric power plant is located in the municipality having the same name, a little more than 300 m above sea level in the lower Aosta Valley.
The plant, which has been in operation since 1947, uses the power of the water passing through the turbine and discharged from the Montjovet plant to produce renewable hydroelectric energy, through a special direct connection channel between the two plants.
In case the Montjovet plant is out of service, however, it derives water through its weir/intake structure on the Dora Baltea River. The forebay reservoir, engine room and transformer room are located in surface caves, interconnected by tunnels, dug into the steep rock face above the open-air power station.
Inside the plant, the Kaplan turbine provides a power output of 18.5 MW.
